CITES approved Uganda's request to allow limited exports of leopards (Panthera pardus)
for hunting trophies and skins. Environmental organizations condemned
the decision, saying it had no scientific support. Although Uganda
claims that reports of panther attacks on livestock are increasing,
some experts say the wild leopard population is declining. Uganda will
now be able to export 28 leopard skins each year just over half of
the fifty they requested.
